Kathmandu, January 20
Nepal is set to receive the first-ever lot of COVISHIELD Covid-19 vaccines as a part of the Indian grant on Thursday.
In the first lot, 1 million doses of the vaccines will be imported under the Indian government’s #VaccineMaitri campaign.
Organising a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi and Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, made the announcement.
Minister Tripathi said health workers including ambulance drivers and security personnel would be vaccinated in the first phase.
“This is an incomparable example of Nepal-India friendship,” Tripathi said, “India has made a political decision for the people of Nepal and other neighbours. We would like to thank everyone.”
He said Nepal was all set to import the vaccines and there were not any economic and administrative complications.
Nepal has already approved the emergency use of the vaccine.
